REAL WORLD
MGMT 305/ ENGGEN 405 is a cross disciplinary paper offered to final year and post graduate students. It introduces students to "real world" problems and provides them with a solid understanding and hands-on experience of the Innovation and New Product Development Processes. Providing experiences that extend beyond more traditional university papers, the paper is an excellent chance for students that want to challenge and extend their perceptions of the environment contemporary New Zealand businesses now face.
REAL PROJECT
The students work in multidisciplinary and team based projects with an industry partner. Throughout the course, they get exposed to an iterative and applied approach which combines technical and organisational issues of product innovation. They learn how to apply creative methods and state of the tools and techniques to the development of innovative products.
REAL TEAM
The paper aims at developing an in-depth understanding of the process of developing innovative new products. It is designed as a project and team based learning experience, and also includes lectures and studio sessions. Project teams develop a product from idea to concept for a business client; this involves a range of stages where the outcome is a professionally presented product proposal and business case. Emphasis is on team work and experience of the actual process, and reflections of learning are highly valued.
REAL LEARNING
Learning is supported through team work, discussions, lectures, studio sessions, independent study, assignments, and written and oral presentations. A broad range of resources is provided on the course website and in the lecture material. A number of experienced tutors mentor the project teams and bring technical and business expertise into the team discussions and learning process. As team work experience is an important skill of modern business professional, team work and project management issues are carefully moderated and monitored thoughout the duration of the course.
FOR WHOM
This paper is for students from the faculties of Engineering, Business and Creative Industries. Individuals will gain insights into the contemporary New Zealand business climate, and also attain a deeper appreciation of different disciplines. Prerequisite: B grade average in 90 points at Stage II
