David HowellDavid Howell is a PhD student in the School of Mechanical Engineering, researching NPD management techniques for tech-sector SMEs. After gaining a BE from the University of Auckland in 1986 and working for a short period at Subaru NZ, he travelled to the UK, studied for an MSc in Automotive Product Engineering from Cranfield Institute of Technology, and spent 5 years with Rover Group designing suspension & braking systems. Since returning to New Zealand he has had product engineering roles with Fisher & Paykel Healthcare and Tru-Test, and most recently was Engineering Manager at Wellington Drive Technologies, which he joined during their startup phase. His experience across a range of engineering disciplines and company sizes gives him a broad perspective on the issues of small-business NPD.
