Aruna Shekar is a senior lecturer in Product Development at Massey University’s School of Engineering & Advanced Technology, Auckland. Her research interests are in product innovation management, consumer research, innovation process, methods and best practices. She has taught at Massey for the last twelve years and coordinated the final year product development projects with industry. Aruna received her PhD in Product Development from Massey University in 2003, and has supervised several postgraduate students in the field. She initiated and set up the New Zealand affiliate of the global Product Development & Management Association (PDMA). The Innovationz team is a cross-functional group with a common interest in extending product innovation research, practices and knowledge. Product development is a discipline in its own right. Having a full-time role as a senior lecturer, I was appointed as an Advisory Board member for many of the post-graduates in the team, to collaboratively supervise research and to co-author publications. As a researcher/supervisor, my focus has been on user-oriented product development, having completed an innovation metrics study. Although I have published a number of other papers, the following are some of the papers co-authored with Innovationz team members: • A.Shekar and R.H.A. Seidel (2009) Key observations and reflections on learning from product innovation courses" at the EIASM 16TH International Product Development Management Conference. • A.Shekar and R.H.A. Seidel (2008) Creating Value through Consumer Involvement in New Product Development: Case Study Analyses, Great Lakes NASMEI 08 International Marketing Conference. • A.Shekar, R.H.A. Seidel and L.Haemmerle, (2008) Product Development Project Reviews: Lessons Learned Managing University-Industry Partnerships 15th International Product Development management Conference.E:\Conference CD\papers\18358.pdf • A.Shekar and R.H.A.Seidel, (2006), “Product Design Engineering: project-based courses to educate students in product innovation”, International Seminar on Product Design and Development Proceedings IPDD - Frontiers in Product Design & Development.
