Innovationz is delighted to host the Auckland event for World Plone Day. The event is an opportunity for the small but passionate NZ Plone community to promote this quite remarkable open source product. The intended audience is not developers but anyone interested in a tool that will help them create a website. Just curious how websites are created and managed? Want to know more about one of the friendliest of open source projects? Then come along. We intend to start off slow with explaining what a content management system (CMS) actually means then gently slide into showing you how Plone does the CMS job. Plone is widely used by government, education and NGOs. Some case examples of New Zealand Plone websites will 'make it real' and of course we can not let you leave without a brief tour of some of the wonderful features of this great product. Along the way we'll expalin more about what an open source community is and some the key people in Plone's. They are a neat bunch we know you'll be impressed!

Presentations will be:
1. CMS, Plone and other basics in simple terms for everyone.
Chris Chambers
The term "Content Management System" is about as easy to engage with as the term "Word Processor". So this is a good place to start. Anyone faced with writing a report will choose to use a word processor. It is a similar situation with wanting to write a website in that you should choose to use a content management system. By illustrating this point through examples this talk will explain the functionality you would typically expect from a CMS and more importantly point to the features of Plone that will make your life easier if you want a website that is more than a few pages.
2. WHY NZ GOVERNMENT AND OTHERS CHOOSE PLONE
Darryl Dixon
An exploration of some of the motivating factors in choosing Plone over other CMS systems. What does Plone have that makes it special? How nicely will Plone play with all the other web and backend systems that we have in place already? Is Plone a 'toy' or is it capable enough to handle the real work and customers that our website needs to support? And finally, what does it take to get started with Plone today.
3. Plone 3 and becoming a power user
Michael Dunstan
Plone 3.2 will ship with "buildout" based installers for all platforms. Buildout is becoming the de facto way to install add on products for Plone. This talk will be a gentle demonstration of using buildout to install various products.
