The Innovation Journey 4 Workshops
This is the third Forum put on by INNOVATIONZ
following those in April and November 2008.
The external conditions of New Zealand have
changed even since last year, so we feel compelled
to deal with those difficult matters in this event.
Whereas the Forum in November indicated the scope
of some of these problems, and the implications
for technology, design and innovation, here we
want to go further and be more optimistic.
So the mood of the Forum now is not so much what has
gone wrong as what can we put right? We have some ideas
about that. We can not fix everything in a few hours but we
can stimulate some new attitudes and foster a few insights.
The Forum on April 1st is, therefore, a trailer for
four possible strategies, for four ways forward.
We think of these as strategic choices facing all
businesses: the injunctions are as follows.
Be more creative , not just with ideas and
hardware, but with business models.
Stay ahead of technology, and benchmark
your own practices against the best.
Develop even deeper understandings of users and
markets, by picking up on some new techniques
- such as mapping and ethnography.
Build the predictive capability of the organisation.

Introduction
Rainer Seidel
This FOUR BOX MATRIX below was developed by David Walker for INNOVATIONZ and used to givea structure to these Workshops.
It is based on the work of Richard Whittington
See his book 'What is strategy and does it matter?
A good book because it is short and to the point
The answer is.... Yes Strategy does matter .
Our shorthand notion for those four strategies is
PROCESS
PUSH
PULL
PREDICT
Of course, in the best firms, these choices are not
mutually exclusive. Under pressure, you have to
do everything well. A successful business will fuse
together all four perspectives in one coherent view.
This is not easy. The April Forum and the upcoming
four workshops will help you construct your own
fusion, and plan your own route. The workshops will
guide you through the INNOVATION JOURNEY.
At the first session on April 1st you can decide what
you want. The event of April 1st will be a trailer and
discussion for the workshops. If you have a view of what
we should cover and we look as if we are missing that,
please let us know. We are all in the melting pot now
